The Hayloft
Project Outline:
After a lengthy duel with Guernsey’s Planning Authority permission was finally granted for the conversion of this 19th century rare and distinctive open sided barn into a dwelling in December 2021.
Product Details:
Thermafleece CosyWool was used in all the internal studwork walls and ceilings/floor zone, primarily to limit sound transmission between rooms whilst helping to maintain a cooler environment on the Ground floor containing sleeping accommodation.
Design and Installation Criteria:
A key driver for the development was to ensure that it was a reasonably sustainable project with the retention of much of the original fabric of the building, re-use of materials from several demolished outbuildings on the site including all granite, pan-tiles, lintels etc.
We were pleasantly surprised at the ease of installation between studs / floor joists without the need to cut the product and importantly Thermafleece Cosywool does not irritate the skin like petrochemical foams – a joy to use and good value overall .
Project Details:
The property is in the Talbot Valley, which is located in St Andrews in the centre of Guernsey, interestingly the only Parish without a coastline on this small Island.
The Hayloft was part of an historic cluster of protected buildings formerly Les Galliennes Farm which had long since been abandoned, sadly rapidly falling into disrepair and dereliction . (The previous owners died in 2011)
The conversion has effectively preserved a fine building, now re-purposed as an awesome home.
